Zeus’s Story

‘Man’s Best Friend’ – a phrase that we’d heard many times before, but only truly understood when we met our forever friend, Zeus.

Zeus, our gorgeous Labrador, who is the real driving force behind Destination Dog, came into our lives four years ago and has made such an impact, as I’m sure my fellow pet owners will understand. As our first family dog, there was a lot of learning on the job – what foods to give him, exercise needs, you name it! So, as you can imagine, his health issues at such an early age came as a shock to us and was something we didn’t really know how to handle. We were aware that dogs are vulnerable to several health issues but didn’t think that was something we would have to deal with so early on in his life.

We naturally turned to his vet, who established that Zeus had quite a severe grass and tree allergy, and things kind of spiralled from there. Zeus’ skin became extremely irritable, especially around his arms, paws and in and around his ears, which made even our daily walks extremely uncomfortable for him. The steroids that Zeus was given did help to solve the initial problems but were simultaneously creating others. What was most concerning though, was Zeus didn’t seem his usual fun-spirited self. Although we understood that there would be side effects to his steroid treatment, it really broke our hearts to see just how much the side effects were causing him suffering.

Fast forward 6 months, we decided to take matters into our own hands and look for more natural ways to help Zeus. Starting with our natural Paw Balms, we noticed a significant change in Zeus’ skin. The inflammation and blisters began to heal, and by eliminating steroids from his treatment plan, Zeus’ energy levels finally started to improve.

Now I’m not saying that over the counter and prescription medication for dogs are bad, not at all! What I am saying however is that, in some cases, medication and prescriptions are not always the only option. Creating natural products really opened our eyes to the different alternatives available and how beneficial they can be to our pet. To this day, we are still regularly practicing natural remedies on Zeus to treat his allergies, and it’s still working absolute wonders! We have also began incorporating these natural practices into other areas, such as the foods we feed him and the treats we reward him with.

This is him today, a very happy dog, with allergies kept at bay.

Along this journey, we were surprised to hear how many other pet owners struggled with similar issues, and that really did help to put our mind at ease for the most part. It would be great to hear some of your stories too! So, if you’re happy to share some of your own experiences, please feel free to reach out- we’d love to hear it!
